Welcome to the online home of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills, a faith community of enthusiastic, compassionate people of all ages, dedicated to the spiritual growth of our members and friends and caring service to our neighbors near and far. We promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person, welcoming all regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation.

If you are seeking a religious home in Somerset County where questions are encouraged, where reason and faith complement each other, and where the wisdom of many different beliefs is honored, this may be the place for you. The roots of our denomination date back to before the American Revolution. Our congregation was founded in 1997 and is among over a thousand congregations nationwide that are members of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Ours is a religion in which diversity of beliefs is cherished. We are a community of different people encouraging one another in our search for truth, meaning and goodness, drawing inspiration from personal experience, the world’s religions, science, art, and each other.

Our congregation offers a variety of religious education classes for children of all ages, opportunities for community service, engaging adult programs, social gatherings, and inspiring Sunday morning worship services. We hope you will visit us and find yourself feeling welcome among us. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about us. Contact us at the church office at (908) 927-0601 or uucsh@uucsh.org.

At a special congregational meeting held on February 4, 2007, our members resolved to make the following public statement:

The members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills stand in solidarity with all couples in New Jersey seeking fair and equal treatment under our state's civil marriage laws. As a religious community dedicated to affirming and promoting the inherent worth and dignity of every human being, we celebrate the step forward represented by the ruling in Lewis v. Harris. We rejoice that our State Legislature and Governor acted so quickly in passing a law permitting Civil Unions, to allow same-sex couples in the Garden State to enjoy the same civil rights as opposite-sex couples, and we oppose any effort to curtail these rights. At the same time, recognizing the injustice inherent in any "separate but equal" arrangement, we look forward to the day when full equality for all couples, regardless of sexual orientation, exists in the name of "marriage" as well as in civil law.
